Even in 2018 we’re desperate to put people into boxes. You’re either this or that, known by your career goals or sexual orientation. However at the forefront new wave of London Club Kids is Prince JayJay, who simply defies any box you’d like to try and fit him in. Just log on to his colourful Instagram feed, where you’ll find a plethora of eye-popping visuals, and a bio that reads like a series of random words next to each other.

The New York Club Kids of the 90s (a group that included the likes of RuPaul, Amanda Lepore and James St James) were known for their outlandish fashion in the dance club scene. One glance JayJay’s Instagram feed and you’ll see that he takes this one step further utilising his look and aesthetic to disrupt traditional notions on gender binaries. With his body as a canvas he creates a sculpture that walks the line between a childlike playfulness and fetishism.

JayJay’s aesthetic has led him to over 11,000 Instagram followers as well as hosting stints across several nightclubs in London including a regular slot hosting The Box, theatre of varieties, every Wednesday. He doesn’t stop there. With DJ’ing as his main focus in 2018 alone JayJay has played nights at SkinnyDip London, PhatClub, Dalston Superstore as well as Kaiku in Helskini and Gaylakita in Dresden.

But one DJ set isn’t enough. His international popularity led to the creation of BOYTOY – Prince JayJay’s own party at 3xNYX in Amsterdam – described as a pop, pastel, wet dream, Club Kid party. Pretty much the perfect way to describe Prince JayJay, don’t you think?
