Photographer Yasmine Omari Documents Her Homeland, Palestine, With Sincerity And Insight In "Bladi Series"

Bladi, translating as “my homeland”, is an ongoing photographic series and project by Haifa born Palestine-American photographer Yasmine Omari. Exploring her relationship and journey with the people and culture of her roots in Palestine, Omari captures moments that often go unseen within the mainstream narrative. “The photographs that I take while visiting serve as a direct link to my memories of the people, land and culture from my homeland, Palestine”.

The series beautifully documents her visits to historical and cultural sites, connections with relatives and the ever changing landscapes often aggravated by the political conflict. “The photographs in this series portray a peaceful stillness mimicking the beauty of the land and its timelessness amid the oppression and conflict".

Leading us through the landscape of Palestine to intimate domestic settings, with a lens which captures a ghostly beauty, we see a historical awareness in Omari’s work. A focus on female figures throughout a lifetime of generations suggestively dictates a harmony with the photographer’s own awareness of her homeland. To be shown a series of photographs which will continue to grow, is a beautiful homage to the ever morphing Palestine.
